Civilingenjör is the Swedish professional title for a graduate engineer with a Master of Science in Engineering. The acronym is the founder’s signature, baked into the brand for life.

Our story: Swedish engineering since 1947

Cibes was founded in 1947 by Swedish engineer Bertil Svedberg in Stockholm. He named the brand after his own title and initials: CIvilingenjör BErtil Svedberg. Civilingenjör is the Swedish title for a graduate engineer with a Master of Science in Engineering, which Bertil Svedberg earned at the Royal Institute of Technology in 1942.

In the early 1970s, Bertil Svedberg invented the modern screw-driven lift. The principle is simple and elegant: instead of cables and pulleys, the lift is driven by a self-locking screw and nut. The entire drive system fits inside a compact shaft, with no deep pit and no separate machine room required. That single innovation is the foundation of every Cibes home lift sold today, including the lifts we install in Thai homes.

From a Swedish workshop to a global lift group

From 1947 until 2010, Cibes grew steadily at around 5 percent per year. The creation of Cibes Lift Group in 2008 changed the trajectory. Through a series of strategic acquisitions that year, the company moved from being a Swedish manufacturer to becoming an international lift group.

Today, Cibes Lift Group serves customers in more than seventy countries through 20 national subsidiaries and a network of more than 270 distributing partners. The flagship Swedish factory in Gävle is now supported by production units in China, the United States and Poland.

The innovation that changed home lifts

Traditional lifts were never designed for homes. Hydraulic lifts require deep pit excavation, use oil that can leak, and demand major structural changes. For most existing homes, installation was simply impossible.

How the screw-drive system works

An electric motor rotates a nut. The nut is attached to the lift platform. As the nut turns, it travels up or down along a vertical screw shaft, taking the platform with it. There is no hydraulic oil, no deep pit, no separate machine room. If the power fails, a safety brake gently lowers the platform to the ground floor. The result is a lift that installs in five to seven days, fits into existing homes without major renovation, and uses substantially less energy than a conventional traction or hydraulic elevator.

Cibes Lift Thailand: who we are and what we do

Cibes Lift (Thailand) Co., Ltd. was established in 2016 to bring Swedish home lifts directly to the Thai market. In February 2026, we celebrate ten years of direct operations in Thailand. The company now operates a flagship showroom in Bangkok plus regional showrooms in Chiang Mai, Phuket and Udon Thani. Thailand was identified as a priority market for three reasons:

• An ageing society. Thailand became an aged society in 2022 and is on track to become a super-aged society within a
decade. Home lifts help families remain in their homes safely as they get older.
• A strong tradition of multigenerational living. Many Thai homes house three generations under one roof. A residential lift turns a multi-storey home into a comfortable shared space for grandparents, parents and children.
• A growing premium residential and low-rise commercial segment. Private villas, boutique hotels, clinics, beauty salons and small office buildings in Thailand increasingly require a compact, energy-efficient lift solution that fits without a major construction overhaul.

Our team in Thailand handles consultation, design, installation and after-sales service from our flagship showroom in Bangkok and regional showrooms in Chiang Mai, Phuket and Udon Thani. We work closely with leading architects, interior designers and developers across the country.

A global manufacturing network behind every Thai installation

Cibes Lift Group operates four production units on three continents. When a customer in Thailand orders a Cibes lift, the unit is built in the production facility best suited to that model. Most premium models for the Thai market are manufactured at our Jiaxing facility in China, which also houses the group R&D centre for Asia.

Working across multiple production units allows us to keep lead times short for Thai customers without compromising on the Swedish quality standard. Every facility operates under the same group quality management system, certified to ISO 9001:2015.

How Cibes Lift Group operates

Cibes Lift Group is run as one integrated business. Vision and mission set the direction. Strategy and corporate governance frame the operating model. Across seven functions, the entire organisation works to four group-wide priorities: digitalisation, modularisation, sustainability and finance.

The Thai subsidiary plugs directly into this operating model. R&D and production happen at group level in Sweden and China. Marketing, sales, installation and after-sales happen in country, delivered by the Thai team. Strategic governance, group quality systems and the four core priorities apply equally to every market we serve.

“Bringing People Together” is the company purpose of Cibes Lift Group. It is more than a slogan. It is a description of what a home lift actually does in daily life. A lift connects floors. It also connects grandparents to grandchildren, parents to children, hosts to guests, residents to neighbours. That is why Cibes lifts are designed first as accessibility solutions and only second as architectural objects.

In Thailand, this purpose has a very specific meaning. Many of the families we work with are installing a lift so that an elderly parent can join family dinners on the upper floor, or so that a returning grandchild in a wheelchair can use every room of the home. The Bringing People Together vision is what we measure every project against.

Sustainability: a Swedish way of building lifts

Sustainability is not a separate programme at Cibes. It is built into how the products are designed:

• Modular construction. Every Cibes lift is assembled from standardised modules. This makes installation fast, customisation efficient, and upgrades possible without replacing the entire lift.
• Flatpack delivery. Modular design allows the lift to be shipped flat, reducing the volume transported and the associated carbon footprint.
• Optimised drive system. Our latest drive system reduces energy consumption by up to 45 percent compared with previous generations.
• Small structural impact. No deep pit, no separate machine room. The screw-driven design means less concrete, less structural reinforcement and less embodied carbon in the building.
